Mathys Tel stance on permanent Tottenham deal revealed

Tottenham will find it hard to convince Mathys Tel to remain at the club permanently without European football, sources have told Football Insider.

Spurs are keen to keep the Frenchman, just 19, beyond the end of his loan spell in May but will not pay the buy clause – which is worth around £45million.

They will look to negotiate Tel’s price tag down this summer in an attempt to secure his signature long-term.

However, sources say the forward is unlikely to be convinced to join the club if Tottenham don’t qualify for Europe in the 2025-26 campaign.

Tel wants European football as Tottenham plot approach

Their only route to Europe is to win this season’s Europa League – with Spurs level against Eintracht Frankfurt ahead of their second leg clash on Thursday (17 April).

Tel has made 11 appearances across all competitions for Tottenham since joining on loan from Bayern Munich earlier this year.

He has scored three goals in those outings – including two in his last two Premier League appearances.

The France Under-21 international is under contract at Bayern until June 2029 and has scored 16 goals in 83 games for the German giants.

‘Richarlison certain to leave Tottenham’

Meanwhile, ex-Spurs scout Mick Brown told Football Insider (7 April) that Richarlison is not seen as a part of the long-term plans for the future at Tottenham.

Everton are one of the clubs interested in a move to re-sign the Brazilian, who remains very highly-regarded on Merseyside despite his exit in 2022.

He has made just 14 appearances for Ange Postecoglou’s side this term – scoring three goals.
