‘Mathys Tel drops hint over permanent Tottenham move with £45.7m deal in doubt’

Mathys Tel has hinted at a permanent move to Tottenham following his loan move from Bayern Munich.

After joining Spurs on loan from the Bundesliga champions, Tel notched three goals and one assist in 20 appearances across all competitions.

The France Under-21 international played his part in Tottenham’s Europa League success, as he made five outings in the European competition.

However, the man on loan from Bayern Munich watched on as an unused substitute when Ange Postecoglou’s men beat Manchester United 1-0 in the final on Wednesday, 21 May.

Tel waxes lyrical about Spurs as he issues future hint

After winning the Europa League this season, Tottenham will have to bolster their ranks before competing in next season’s Champions League.

Meanwhile, as reported by Football London [27 May], the North Londoners boast the option to buy Tel permanently for a fee of £45.7 million, while he told Spurs’ in-house media team after the defeat to Brighton on Sunday, 25 May: “Tottenham is a big family with the fans, with everybody else.

“Tottenham is not just a club, it is everything for us. We have to keep going and win more trophies.”

His comments indicate that he has enjoyed his loan spell with Postecoglou’s side, while his feeling that the North London club must ‘keep going’ indicates that he could join permanently.

Ebere Eze could still join Tottenham

While Tel has hinted that he will join Tottenham from Bayern permanently, the North London side must bolster their squad after enduring a poor Premier League season.

Spurs’ 2024/25 season will be remembered for their Europa League triumph, but their top-flight season has painted a different picture as Postecoglou’s men finished fourth bottom.

It is therefore vital that Tottenham recruit well during the summer transfer window, while they have set their sights on a move for Crystal Palace star Ebere Eze.

Football Insider have exclusively revealed that Eze is still intent on leaving Palace despite their FA Cup triumph amid interest from Spurs as well as the likes of Manchester City and Manchester United.

Tottenham are also interested in signing James McAtee from City.

If Postecoglou’s men sign the Eagles star, he could have what it takes to help them progress in both the Premier League and the Champions League next season.

The England international showcased his ability on the big stage when he scored the winning goal as Oliver Glasner’s men beat Man City 1-0 in the FA Cup final.
