Mathys Tel transfer update: ‘Tottenham optimism grows as Bayern waver’
Tottenham look increasingly likely to complete the permanent signing of attacker Mathys Tel from Bayern Munich in the summer transfer window.
The Frenchman spent the second half of last season on loan with Spurs, helping them to win the Europa League final, though a 17th place finish in the Premier League cost manager Ange Postecoglou his job.
That move came after Tel had performed a u-turn after initially turning down a move to Tottenham, with the 20-year-old producing some improved performances as his loan spell went on.
With an option to buy having been included in the terms of that loan deal, the chances of that being triggered in some form appear to be growing.

Bayern Munich stance over transfer fee revealed
Earlier this month, Football Insider reported that Tel is open to signing for Tottenham on a permanent basis, and his chances of doing that look to have increased.
Speaking recently in Germany, Bayern Munich director Max Eberl revealed talks are ongoing with Spurs over a permanent move for Tel.
That comes with it understood that Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy does not want to pay the £45million option to buy clause for the attacker.
Now, an update from The i has stated that there is growing “optimism” at Spurs that they can sign Tel on a permanent deal.
It is noted that Bayern had previously been holding out for that £45million for the attacker, but that there may now be some “wiggle room” over a deal.
That may suggest that the Germans champions would now be willing to relent and accept a reduced fee for the sale of the Frenchman.

Tottenham may not want to rush into Mathys Tel transfer
Football Insider Verdict
There is still plenty to consider for Spurs as they look into this potential permanent signing of Tel this summer.
While he may have become more involved as the season went on, the attacker struggled to really make a huge impression for Tottenham at any point.
As a result, even if Bayern are willing to reduce their demands, they will still have to decide whether a fee is worth paying for the attacker.
That is particularly the case given Spurs need to invest heavily to improve their squad this summer ahead of a return to the Champions League, and some may question if this is the best use of funds.
Of course, Thomas Frank is also only a few days into his role as Tottenham manager, and he will want to assess his squad options and identify targets of his own for the market.
With that in mind, there is an argument that Spurs should not be acting too quickly over Tel here, even if Bayern are willing to reduce their asking price for him.
