Matt Le Tissier drops verdict on Wolves sacking Vitor Pereira

Wolves have thrown their weight behind Vitor Pereira after fans called for him to be “sacked” in the immediate aftermath of Sunday’s defeat to Burnley.

That is according to Premier League legend Matt Le Tissier, who has exclusively told Football Insider that he thinks the Wolves boss is unlikely to be dismissed as it stands due to recently signing a new deal.

Wolves have endured a horror start to the 2025-26 campaign so far, with no wins from their opening nine games up to now.

Burnley beat Wolves 3-2 at Molineux on Sunday (26 October) as Lyle Foster netted an added-time winner to move the newly-promoted side further away from the bottom three.

Vitor Pereira‘s side remain rooted to the bottom of the Premier League with just two points accrued so far, and fans took their anger out on Sunday in a confrontation with the manager and his squad after the loss.

Pereira is under serious pressure at Wolves right now

Pereira signed a three-year contract extension with Wolves in September, but that decision looks more ill-advised with each passing week that they fail to pick up a first league win of the season.

He was appointed as their boss last December after Gary O’Neil had overseen a similarly poor start to the 2024-25 campaign, but Pereira’s job is not believed to be in immediate danger right now as the board back him to turn it around.

Football Insider have revealed that Pereira will have until the next international break to stay at the Wolves helm, with two games against Chelsea and another against fellow strugglers Fulham between now and then.

After clashing with fans following their defeat to Burnley, the 57-year-old admitted that he feels safe in his job right now, saying: “I’m not worried. It’s not about me. It’s about the club, the team and the players. My work is to help them to come again mentally strong for the next battle.

Le Tissier thinks Wolves board will stand by Pereira

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former England and Southampton striker Le Tissier maintained that he expects Molineux chiefs to stick by Pereira for the foreseeable future.

He said: “I think if they’ve just given him a new three-year contract, that tells you that there is a lot of support there from the board, so I think he will get a bit more time to turn things around.

While they seem likely to suffer another loss against Chelsea in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday (29 October), their Premier League clash against Fulham on Saturday (1 November) feels like a huge one for Pereira’s future in charge at Molineux.
