Matt Le Tissier makes surprise claim in Tottenham v Manchester United combined XI

By Russell Edge

Former Southampton star Matt Le Tissier has named seven Tottenham players in a combined XI with Manchester United ahead of their Premier League clash on Saturday.

The two sides go into the match at Old Trafford level on points, with United sitting second ahead of Spurs on goal difference alone, although they both find themselves five points behind league leaders Manchester City.

However despite their parity in the league table Le Tissier has shown that he believes the north London side to possess the stronger squad, with just for of Jose Mourinho’s men making it into his line up.

One notable inclusion is that of Danny Rose, which will come as a surprise to many considering his nine month injury layoff, coupled with the impressive form of Tottenham team mate and regular left back Ben Davies this season.

He has made just two appearances this season, his first start coming in Wednesday’s surprise 3-2 defeat at home to West Ham in the League Cup, but the former Southampton man believes he is the better of “two good options” at Spurs.

His full combined line up, which was done for Sky Sports on their website, is below: Rose lines up on the left in an all-Tottenham back four in front of David De Gea, with Le Tissier explaining that right back Kieran Trippier was chosen ahead of United’s Antonio Valencia due to his threat down the flank.

There is no place for a Spurs player in the centre of the park but they do see Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli joined by Marcus Rashford in supporting Harry Kane in the attacking roles, with the England striker preferred over Romelu Lukaku up front.

In other Tottenham news, Mauricio Pochettino made some strong accusations against his players after defeat to West Ham.
