Matt Le Tissier reveals ‘terrific choice’ to replace Ruben Amorim at Man United

Man United should focus its attentions on appointing an active Premier League manager to replace Ruben Amorim as opposed to Gareth Southgate.

That is according to former England and Southampton star Matt Le Tissier, who told Football Insider exclusively that the Red Devils should be targeting managers with more Premier League experience.

Southgate rejected Man United’s job offer after Erik ten Hag‘s sacking in 2024, with Amorim being given the job instead.

Following Man United’s humiliating 3-1 defeat to Brentford, it seems to be only a matter of time before the Portuguese head coach is let go.

But rather than return for the former England manager, there is a better option available for the Red Devils to turn to.

Man United should focus on hiring unbeaten Oliver Glasner

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Le Tissier previously rejected the idea of Man United hiring Southgate, calling the ex-Three Lions boss “too predictable”.

The Premier League legend instead thinks that Jim Ratcliffe and Co should focus on hiring Oliver Glasner, whose Crystal Palace side are the only Premier League team yet to lose this season.

Le Tissier said: “I actually think the best choice for Manchester United manager at the moment, somebody with Premier League experience, one that won the FA Cup last season, and Palace fans won’t like to hear this, is Oliver Glasner.

“I think he would be a terrific choice for the next Manchester United manager.”

Next Man United boss must figure out how to get best from Bruno Fernandes

Amorim’s insistence on using a 3-4-2-1 has harmed the majority of his squad’s performance this season, but the player most impeded by the Portuguese boss’ inflexibility has been his captain, Bruno Fernandes.

As shown below by Football Insider’s new statistics partner Opta, the midfielder appeared in a variety of positions against Brentford, but failed to exert any control over the centre of the park, as his manager is now using him in an uncomfortable central midfield role.

Fernandes’ desire to cover every blade of grass left Manuel Ugarte doing the job of two men, and the Uruguayan was completely gassed by the time he was substituted in the 66th minute.

The 30-year-old was one of the Premier League’s best players last season and with his heroics having disappeared, United are imploding on the pitch. Objective number one for whoever replaces Amorim: fix Fernandes.
