Matt Le Tissier reveals which of Adam Wharton and Marc Guehi he expects to leave Crystal Palace in January

Crystal Palace will not be open to selling Adam Wharton in the January transfer window but could be resigned to losing him if he impresses at the World Cup next summer.

That is according to Premier League legend Matt Le Tissier, who has exclusively told Football Insider that Marc Guehi‘s potential move away in the new year could scupper interested teams’ chances of prising the youngster from Selhurst Park.

Adam Wharton has built a reputation as one of the Premier League’s most highly-rated youngsters amid some top form at Crystal Palace over the last 18 months.

He was handed a first competitive start for England on Sunday (16 November) as they beat Albania 2-0, with the battle now on between Wharton and Elliot Anderson to start for the Three Lions at the World Cup next year.

Wharton has been linked with a big move away from Palace

Wharton is wanted by some of the world’s biggest clubs for his impressive Palace performances, with a key role in their decent Premier League form and FA Cup win last season.

He has made 15 appearances in all competitions so far this term, with uncertainty around his future as the January window looms.

Football Insider recently revealed that Palace are not planning to sell Wharton in January as they plan to offer him a new contract.

Palace are braced for January offers for Wharton though, with the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona, Liverpool and Man United all linked with his services.

Le Tissier thinks Wharton will stay at Palace with Guehi more likely to leave

Football Insider recently revealed that Liverpool are working on signing Marc Guehi in the new year after he was mere hours away from that move at the end of the summer window.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former England and Southampton striker Le Tissier insisted that he cannot see Wharton leaving Palace if Guehi does depart as they will not want to lose two of their biggest stars.

He said: “I don’t know if it will happen in January. Palace aren’t under any pressure to sell their players.

I think they probably might lose Mark Guehi in January, so I don’t think they want to lose Wharton as well.

I’d be surprised if (he) went in January. However, if he has a really good World Cup, then I think that’s when the club might struggle to keep hold of him.”
