Matt O’Riley backed to agree Spain move after ‘huge’ Celtic claim – expert
Matt O’Riley would be better suited to a move to Spain or Italy if he leaves Celtic.
But, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Hoops striker Frank McAvennie said O’Riley won’t want to leave Parkhead yet.
According to the Daily Mail (10 July), the 22-year-old is attracting interest from Real Betis, Valencia and Sevilla as well as Premier League side Brighton.
The Denmark youth international has three years remaining on his contract with the Glasgow giants after joining from MK Dons in January last year.
When asked if O’Riley is ready to move away from the Scottish Champions, McAvennie told Football Insider: “The manager might bring in a midfielder who is first choice so I do not know what the situation is with O’Riley.
“He has improved tremendously since he came in and has relished it.
“I thought he did not have what it takes at first but you can see he is a talent.
“I think he would be better suited to a move abroad than going down south. I think the pace of the game in Italy or Spain would be better suited.
“I do not think he wants to move, he seems quite happy. Coming from MK Dons to Celtic is a huge step up so I do not think there is a worry about anyone leaving.“

O’Riley made 52 appearances for the Celts across all competitions last season.
He netted four goals and offered up 14 assists in those outings.
