Matt Targett: Newcastle United tipped to seal ‘bargain’ deal after ‘unheard of’ update – pundit
Kevin Campbell has heaped praise on Matt Targett despite Newcastle United’s defeat to Chelsea on Sunday.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Arsenal and Everton striker said the Magpies would be getting “a bargain” if they sign the 26-year-old for £15million this summer.
Targett suffered his first defeat in a Newcastle shirt at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
The left-back has been hugely impressive since moving to St. James’ Park on loan and has helped Eddie Howe’s side move nine points clear of the bottom three.
According to the Chronicle (8 March), Newcastle have a deal in principle with Aston Villa to convert Targett’s loan move into a permanent one for £15million at the end of the season.
When asked for his assessment of the price the Magpies could pay for the full-back, Campbell told Football Insider: “That’s cheap money.
“That really is a bargain because Matt Targett has gone there and done brilliantly.
“Targett and Dan Burn have made a world of difference on the left-hand side of that defence.
“To sign a ready-made Premier League full-back for £15million is unheard of really. It is a no-brainer, come on. You don’t have to think about that one at all. That’ll get done.”

Targett has made 25 appearances across all competitions this season, with six of those coming for the Magpies.
On Thursday, Eddie Howe’s side travel to Goodison Park to take on relegation-threatened Everton.
In other news, a pundit has claimed Newcastle United may have found their new Tino Asprilla after ‘huge’ news in the last 48 hours.
