Matthijs de Ligt sends message to Man United fans after Andre Onana mix-up
Man United star Matthijs de Ligt has “All focus on Sunday” after being involved in an on-field mix-up with Andre Onana in their 2-1 Europa League win over Viktoria Plzen on Thursday (December 12).
Onana, 28, was at fault for the Czech side’s opener, attempting to play the ball to De Ligt, 25, while he was surrounded by three opposition attackers, allowing former Burnley forward Matej Vydra to score.
Rasmus Hojlund was on hand to spare Onana’s blushes, coming off the bench to score a brace and send United into the top eight of the new Europa League league phase, meaning they would avoid a potentially tricky play-off fixture if they maintain their position.
De Ligt has established himself as one of United’s first-choice centre-backs since joining in the summer, starting 17 of his 21 appearances across all competitions, scoring one goal, and yielding a total of 1471 minutes of action.
The Dutchman was a stand-out in the win over Viktoria Plzen, winning 100 per cent of his tackles, 80 per cent of his Aerial duels, and making three recoveries.

Arch-rivals Man City have just one win in their last ten games across all competitions, including a 4-1 Champions League defeat to Ruben Amorim’s Sporting earlier in the season.
United will still have to be at their best, however, and De Ligt is determined to inflict further misery on Pep Guardiola’s side, captioning his most recent Instagram post: “+3, all focus on Sunday now!”

United’s most recent 3-2 Premier League defeat to Nottingham Forest has seen them fall into 13th with 19 points from their opening 15 games.
Amorim is yet to truly get going as the new manager, winning three, drawing one, and losing two of his opening five games in charge.
