Matty Cash shares injury update in new message after devastating Aston Villa blow

Aston Villa defender Matty Cash took to social media to share an update after going off injured in their 4-2 Champions League win over Celtic on Wednesday (January 29).

The 27-year-old was replaced by boyhood Celtic fan John McGinna after going down with what appeared to be a muscle injury in the 30th minute.

Morgan Rogers opened the scoring after just three minutes before getting a second just two minutes later, making the youngster the first player in Champions League history to score twice in the first five minutes.

Celtic striker Adam Idah made it 2-2 with a remarkable two-minute goal spree, the first in the 36th minute and the second in the 38th.

Arsenal have since been urged to take a look at the Celtic man as a potential alternative to Villa’s Ollie Watkins after his impressive midweek display.

Watkins then got in on the act for Aston Villa, restoring their lead and subsequently sending a cheeky message to the kit-man after the game.

Rogers then rounded off the scoring in added time, marking his first Champions League hattrick, and securing a spot in the round of 16 for Unai Emery’s side.

Matty Cash hoping to comeback ‘stronger’ after recent Aston Villa setback

The right-back has been key for Villa so far this season, starting 20 of his 21 games across all competitions, popping up with one goal and one assist in his 1615 minutes of action.

Cash took to Instagram after the win to reassure the fans after his injury, saying: “Champions League Qualification, Great night at Villa Park, I’ll Be back Stronger.”

The Poland international’s post comes just days after centre-back Tyrone Mings shared a similar update following his injury in their 1-1 draw with West Ham.

Emery’s attention will return to domestic affairs on Saturday (January 1) as they face local rivals Wolves in the Premier League.
