Mauricio Pochettino: Chelsea in advanced talks with agreement close – sources

Chelsea are in advanced talks with Mauricio Pochettino and an agreement is close, sources have told Football Insider.

Pochettino is firm favourite for the manager’s job and the feeling among the Blues hierarchy is that they will be able to appoint him quickly if all goes according to plan.

The London club have been looking for a successor to Graham Potter following his sacking earlier this month after just seven months in charge.

Frank Lampard has taken charge of the club until the end of the season as the Blues search for their next manager.

On Sunday (23 April), Football Insider revealed that Chelsea have decided not to appoint former Bayern Munich boss Julian Nagelsmann over concerns about his ability to handle big players.

Although the club were impressed by his technical quality, ideas and modern approach, the 35-year-old is no longer a contender to take over at Stamford Bridge.

Former Spain boss Luis Enrique was another name tipped to take charge of the London club but is also believed to be out of the running.

Pochettino left Paris Saint-Germain last summer after taking charge at the French giants for 18 months.

The 51-year-old has previous Premier League experience during his stint at Tottenham where he was in charge for over five years before being relieved of his duties.

Pochettino guided the club to the heights of Premier League title contenders and Champions League finalists before being sacked by the club and replaced by Jose Mourinho.

The Argentinian is now looking at a return to London to take charge at Stamford Bridge.
