Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino believes that Spurs are firing on all cylinders ahead of their Champions League matchup with Juventus and says it’s the “best time” to play them.
Spurs disposed of their north London rivals Arsenal yesterday, beating them 1-0 at Wembley to move into the top four in the Premier League.
In an interview with La Gazzetta dello sport, as translated by Four Four Two, the Argentian stated that this is his best period since taking over as Spurs boss in 2013.
“I’m going through the best time since I started coaching Tottenham.”
“The results against Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal gave us confidence. Now we know we can face the big teams with a different spirit.”
Spurs have not lost since the 16th of December last year, where they were bested by league-leaders Manchester City.
Yet Pochettino’s men do not have long to revel in this feat, as they have to travel to Turin to play Juventus on Tuesday in the round of 16 first leg matchup.
However, Pochettino thinks that this is the perfect time to play the Italian giants, who have had success in Europe over the last few years.
“It’s the best time to play against Juventus. They’ve played in two Champions League finals in three years. But we’re ready and we have confidence in our chances. Let’s see what happens.”
Spurs earned the tie by topping their star-studded group, that included the likes of Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund.
It is crucial to get off to a good start in the knockout stages, and with the favourbale away tie to start proceedings, Pochettino will be hopeful of advancing to the next stage.
