Pochettino hints at future striker selection in absence of Harry Kane

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino has praised Vincent Janssen’s energy after his side’s 2-1 win over Southampton on Sunday, and hinted that he will see more game-time this season with Kane currently out injured.
Janssen’s introduction in the final five minutes saw him make his 31st appearance in a Spurs shirt this season having signed from AZ Alkmaar for £17 million in the summer.
The 22-year-old may have been disappointed not to start the game in Harry Kane’s absence as Son Heung-min was preferred – but he still impressed his manager after coming on as a late substitute.
“It was good,” Pochettino told the Evening Standard after the game.
“I think today he showed great energy when he was on the pitch. He will have the possibility to play more and be more involved.”

Tottenham won the game despite despite their leading scorer’s absence as Christian Eriksen netted their opener, before Delle Ali scored from the spot to give them a 2-0 lead at the break.
James Ward-Prowse pulled one back for the Saints shortly after half time – but ultimately Spurs were able to hold for the 2-1 win and three points to ensure they stayed second.
Although Janssen netted 27 league goals for Alkmaar last term, he has been largely restricted to appearances from the bench since signing for Pochettino’s side.
The Dutchman has started in just 10 of his 31 Tottenham appearances and has scored just five goals – only one coming in the league as he netted against Leicester back in October.
Spurs fans will be hoping that Kane’s injury will provide Janssen with the opportunity to show his worth.
