Max Aarons reacts to Rangers’ Joe Rothwell announcement after transfer confirmed

Rangers’ new signing has been confirmed and Max Aarons has responded to the announcement just a week after his own move to Ibrox.

Aarons joined the Scottish Premiership side on loan from Bournemouth for the season becoming Russel Martin’s second signing of the summer.

Dundee midfielder Lyall Cameron became the club’s first summer signing after the 22-year-old signed a pre-contract agreement with the club back in February.

Martin is looking to bolster his squad ahead of his first season in charge in Scotland in his first managerial role since being sacked from Southampton last year.

Aarons has also played for Norwich City.

Rothwell confirmation gets Aaron approval

Rangers took to social media (2 July) to confirm the signing of Rothwell from Bournemouth on a three-year deal.

Rothwell links up with former Cherries team mate Aarons and the defender showed his seal of approval by liking the post.

The post was captioned: “Welcome to Rangers, Joe Rothwell,” with a hands up emoji.

The 30-year-old helped Leeds United win the Championship last season, making 39 appearances contributing four assists.

Martin requires further signings to chase Celtic

Football Insider verdict

Martin is getting off to a quick start at Ibrox with Rothwell his third signing of the summer transfer window.

The Gers are in Champions League qualifying action against Greek outfit Panathinaikos in late July so Martin needs to bed new players in before the two-legged tie.

Despite fresh investment from the 49ers, the club needs Champions League football to increase revenue and attract the best talent.

An overhaul of the Gers squad is required following a terrible Premiership campaign last time out which saw them finish 17 points behind Celtic.

They were also unable to clinch the Scottish Cup or League Cup, with Celtic and Aberdeen winning the domestic trophies.

Martin has a big job on his hands to overturn Celtic’s dominance and more signings will be required across the park.

The loss of Vaclav Cerny is the biggest blow to new boss Martin following the end of his loan spell.

Cerny contributed 18 goals and nine assists in all competitions.

The goalkeeping position is also one that needs to be addressed due to Jack Butland’s lack of form.

Martin has been linked with a reunion with Aaron Ramsdale, whom he signed for Southampton 12 months ago.
