Max Dowman likened to Man United legend, ‘he’s a bit of a freak’
Max Dowman continues to receive high praise amid the 15 year old’s soaring potential at Arsenal.
Dowman dazzled during Arsenal’s pre-season and has made three appearances for the first team this season alongside numerous inclusions in matchday squads.
If he makes an appearance in the competition, Dowman could become the youngest ever player in the Champions League.
The Gunners have won both their opening matches in the Champions League and sit top of the Premier League table during the international break following Arsenal’s 2-0 win over West Ham.

Max Dowman likened to Man United legend Wayne Rooney
As per the Daily Mail, [10 October], a secret scout has drawn comparisons between Dowman and a young Wayne Rooney.
“He’s the best player England has produced since Wayne Rooney,” a scout said.
“When you can play at this level right now at 15, he’s younger than Rooney was (when he broke through) and Rooney was more of a man physically than Max.
“He’s a bit of a freak! It’s important how we look after him and develop him.
“He can play either side but I’d love to see him central and for me that’s his best position.
“We need to drip feed him in certain games. I don’t think he has to start every game, he should get exposure in different scenarios, like changing a game from the bench.“
Mikel Arteta has already been told to protect Dowman as the teenage midfielder has been a target during games and could be at risk of serious injury.
Dowman and Rooney stats compared
Dowman has yet to score his first competitive goal for Arsenal, with 20 goals for their under-18 side.
Rooney made his Premier League debut at 16, a year after Dowman, and had 12 goal contributions for Everton before he turned 18.
Appearances | 25 |
Goals | 7 |
Assists | 5 |
Dowman still has three years before he turns 18 and he could break Rooney’s stats, but the competition ahead of him at Arsenal makes it tough to earn a regular spot in the starting XI.
