Max Wober could now quit Leeds amid U-turn – sources

Leeds United defender Max Wober is now expected to leave the club before the transfer deadline, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed there’s a “strong possibility” that Woeber will depart Elland Road.

The news comes as a significant U-turn regarding Woeber’s future, as it had been expected that the central defender would be staying at the club.

The 26-year-old is keen to return to the Bundesliga, and Daniel Farke doesn’t want players in his squad who aren’t committed to the cause.

Leeds will listen to offers for Wober in this window as he no longer features in Farke’s plans for the new season.

A move is now seen as best for all parties, and the West Yorkshire giants will allow him to leave if they receive an appropriate offer.

Leeds United are cutting their losses with Max Woeber

Wober went out on loan last season following Leeds United’s relegation from the Premier League, as he spent the previous campaign at Borussia Monchengladbach.

The central defender was a regular feature for the German club, having made 27 appearances in all competitions.

Wober joined the Whites in 2023 but has only made 19 appearances, failing to secure a regular first-team position.

Wober is under contract at Elland Road until 2027, putting the club in a strong negotiating position.

Leeds United

At the other end of the field, Leeds United are focusing on signing a “top-class” forward.

The Whites kickstart their 2024-25 campaign at home against Portsmouth on 10th August.

In other news, Leeds are in talks to sign ‘ideal Summerville replacement.’
