McAvennie tips Celtic to be sensational when ‘brilliant’ new signing lines up with Turnbull
Frank McAvennie insists Celtic now have a seriously talented midfield after a key addition this summer.
The Parkhead icon, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, reacted to the impressive form of David Turnbull.
Turnbull, 22, has scored five goals in his last four games as Celtic’s winning streak continues.
In recent games, he has been joined in the midfield by summer signing James McCarthy.
The former Palace man is yet to start a game for his new side but has impressed on his two outings.
McAvennie has been blown away by Turnbull’s performance and insisted he will only get better when McCarthy gets fit.
“It’s not just Turnbull who people need to watch,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“Callum McGregor is a wonderful player. James McCarthy is coming in as well, he’s brilliant.
“When he comes in, wow, that’s one hell of a midfield. Where was this midfield last year?
“It’s such a change and it’s wonderful to see. Turnbull is in incredible form which is great because I think he’s a great player.
“We’ve been good but I think that midfield will go to another level when McCarthy is fit and in there as well.
“I can’t wait to see it.”
Celtic are gearing up for their first Old Firm game of the season which is set to take place at Ibrox this weekend.
The Hoops will be looking to players like Turnbull to make the difference after a strong start to the season.
