McAvennie: Celtic told to accept £3.5m offer for Ajeti

Frank McAvennie has told Celtic to sell Albian Ajeti this summer even if they end up taking a financial loss.

The Hoops icon, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, told his former side to follow their own example after already selling Patryk Klimala this summer.

Klimala joined New York Red Bulls on 22nd April with Glasgow Times claiming Celtic received a £3.5million fee.

The striker, 22, scored three goals in 28 competitive appearances for Celtic after joining the club from Jagiellonia Bialystok in January 2020.

Ajeti, 24, joined Celtic last summer but only scored six goals in all competitions last season.

McAvennie claims if Celtic can sell Klimala for £3.5million then they can get a similar fee for Ajeti.

“I don’t think he’ll be here next year,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“Lose money on him, they should get him out. They can get money for him but we aren’t in the position to demand a decent fee.

“He hasn’t done anything. If they get a £3.5million offer for Klimala, take that for him and get him out the door.

“Take a loss on him, he just needs to go. Get him off the wage bill. I just don’t see a future for him there.

“Even under the new boss and whatever, he just hasn’t done it. We need a clean slate. It’s best for all parties.”

Celtic are gearing up for vital Champions League qualifiers after being drawn against FC Midtjylland on Wednesday.

This will be new boss Ange Postecoglou’s first taste of competitive football with his new club.
