Ex-striker hails 'great move' from Leeds after Bamford extends contract
Frank McAvennie has hailed the decision to hand Patrick Bamford a new Leeds United contract.
The former Celtic and West Ham hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claims Bamford has to keep improving next season.
The Athletic‘s David Ornstein revealed on Monday that Leeds secretly extended the centre-forward’s contract last summer, meaning he is actually under contract at Elland Road beyond June 2022.
Bamford. 27, has enjoyed an excellent Premier League season, picking up 15 goals and eight assists so far.
The striker has started every league game as a vital part of Marcelo Bielsa’s side.

McAvennie claims Bamford’s new challenge is to prove that this season wasn’t a fluke.
“Of course it’s a great move,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“He’s a great striker and he’s having a fantastic season. The challenge for him is to go and do it next year.
“He needs to prove that this season wasn’t a fluke. He’s a throwback, a real good centre forward.
“It’s not just about scoring goals, he brings other players into the game and scoring goals as well.”
Bamford could force his way into the England squad for this summer’s European Championships after UEFA confirmed 26-man squads would be allowed.
Leeds are next in action against Burnley on Saturday.
