McAvennie demands Goldson statement from Rangers after source’s reveal

Frank McAvennie wants Rangers to come out and address Connor Goldson’s situation.

The former Celtic hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, can’t believe the club are failing to set the record straight.

This site revealed on 2 December that Goldson, who is out of contract at the end of the campaign, has turned down a new deal.

An Ibrox source told Football Insider that the former Brighton defender is hopeful of a return to the Premier League.

McAvennie insists it is becoming more and more obvious that Goldson will leave.

“It’s looking more and more like Goldson is going,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“He’s not signing that contract, it is clear as day to me that he wants to leave.

“So Rangers have a problem. They need money and the only time they can get money for Goldson is in January.

“Or, they can gamble and keep him until the end of the season. But what if Goldson starts pulling out of tackles.

“If he’s agreed a new deal then he won’t be committed to Rangers. Then they have a big problem.

“If Goldson isn’t playing his best then he may as well have been sold.

“They are better off selling him. I can’t believe Rangers haven’t come out and said something.

“This is a key player we’re talking about. His future is being played out by agents in the media. It’s not right.”

Rangers

Goldson has featured 29 times for Rangers across all competitions this season, scoring once.

He signed from Brighton, where he made three Premier League appearances, in June 2018.
