McAvennie makes ‘huge’ Turnbull claim – says he can be ‘brilliant’ with Celtic teammate
Frank McAvennie has told David Turnbull what he needs to do to take his game to the next level at Celtic.
The former Hoops hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insists the midfielder needs to learn how to perform in Tom Rogic’s absence.
Turnbull, 22, and Rogic, 28, both bagged goals as Celtic ran out 3-0 winners over Dundee United on Sunday (5 December).

This was Turnbull’s eighth goal of the season from midfield.
However, McAvennie claims the midfielder can get even better if he learns to impress without Rogic by his side.
“I am a fan of Turnbull,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“But I think he needs to perform alongside other players, not just with Rogic.
“I think those two playing together is the way forward. But Rogic isn’t always going to be there.
“We know what his injuries issue are like. So Turnbull needs to take some of that onus when Rogic isn’t there.
“He is so versatile, that’s why Celtic spent the money on him. Imagine how good he will be when he takes his game to the next level.
“That has to be his next step now. He’s young and has the ability to be even more of a key player going forward.
“He’s brilliant. I’m a huge fan of his, I hope he can take that next step. I would love to see it.”

Turnbull has made 30 appearances for Celtic this season.
He has contributed six assists to go along with his eight goals.
