McAvennie ‘feels sorry for Connor Goldson’ as he digs at ‘terrified’ Rangers teammate
Frank McAvennie “feels sorry” for Rangers stalwart Connor Goldson after suffering an injury against Liverpool on Wednesday (12 October).
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Celtic striker said Leon King looked like a “rabbit in headlights” when he replaced Goldson.
Goldson went down clutching his thigh in the first half of the Gers’ 7-1 Champions League defeat to the Reds and was replaced by King before half time.
According to the Daily Record (13 October), Goldson could be facing months on the sidelines with a suspected severe thigh muscle tear.
The 29-year-old has already made 17 appearances for the Gers so far this season.
McAvennie acknowledged the importance of the centre-back to the Rangers team.
“I felt sorry for Goldson,” he told Football Insider.
“He has not missed a game in such a long time. He is one of the heroes that came in because he came for nothing. He has been a stalwart.
“When you come up against quality in the Champions League they are leaking goals, they can’t do much about it.
“King when he came on looked like rabbits in headlights, he must have been terrified when he saw Salah coming on.
“I am not saying Goldson would have been any better but he might have kept it down to five.“

Last season Goldson made 61 appearances for the Light Blues across all competitions.
In those outings he scored four goals and provided four assists.
