McAvennie: Forrest wants to end his career at Celtic after source’s reveal today
James Forrest does not want to leave Celtic and will see out his career at the club.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Hoops and West Ham striker Frank McAvennie hailed the 32-year-old as a quality servant to the club and suggested he is too settled to leave having spent his whole career at the Glasgow giants.
As revealed by Football Insider (2 February), Forrest was wanted by clubs in the English Championship on deadline day but rejected a mammoth six offers to move.
Since then, sources have told Football Insider (4 February) that several Major League Soccer sides are monitoring the winger’s situation ahead of a potential out-of-window move.
The latest update today from sources is that the interest remains active and that many clubs are keeping close tabs on Forrest’s situation.
Forrest has made 483 appearances for the Hoops since joining their academy in 2003 but has become a squad player in his advanced years.
Is Forrest set to end his career at Celtic?
McAvennie is adamant that the Scotsman will prove to be a one-club player and claimed he is still of use to Brendan Rodgers from the bench.
“I don’t think Forrest would want to leave Celtic,” he told Football Insider.
“He’s been at Celtic for a long time and he’s been on decent money for a long time – I think he’s settled.
“He’s financially secure and it’s his testimonial year so I can’t see him going.
“He can still do a job for Celtic coming on from the bench and he’s the kind of player you want at your disposal, which is huge for Brendan.
“You have to offload players but I think you know what you get with James.
“I think he will finish his career at Celtic.

“If he was to leave, it would be with everyone’s blessing.
“I’ve not always agreed with the way he plays football, but he’s been an excellent servant to the club.”
