McAvennie fumes at ‘crazy’ Rangers after ‘unbelievable’ response to Celtic
Frank McAvennie has slammed Rangers as they reportedly disagree with Celtic’s plan to bring the SPFL winter break forward.
The former Hoops hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, has been stunned by the Gers’ actions.
In a statement on Tuesday (21 December) Celtic confirmed they had asked the SPFL to move the scheduled winter break forward by a week.
This comes following a raft of postponements up and down the UK due to a surge in coronavirus cases.
According to a report from the Scottish Sun (21 December) Dundee, Dundee United, Hearts, St Johnstone and, naturally, St Mirren, all agree with the premise.
However, it is claimed Rangers do not agree with the plans and McAvennie can’t believe the club’s stance.
“Why don’t Rangers want to do that?” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“Do they not want their fans to see them winning? It’s crazy.
“Rangers are a law unto themselves, aren’t they? This always happens.
“They just do whatever anyone else doesn’t want to do and vice versa.
“Whatever the SPFL or Celtic want to do, Rangers will kick up a fuss.
“This is nothing to do with football, it’s people’s health and wellbeing.
“If they can’t see that then, well, I don’t know what to say. All of these decisions are hard.
“Maybe it’s because Rangers are on a roll and they know they perform better without a crowd anyway.
“It’s just unbelievable.”

Celtic are currently scheduled to face Rangers at Parkhead on 2 January.
As it stands, only 500 fans would be allowed to attend the game, which could have major ramifications for the title race.
In other news, Celtic warned by English pundit about “overboard celebrations” amid “runaway” Gers claim.
