McAvennie: Gilmour is a 'Rangers guy' as Ibrox return next season mooted
Frank McAvennie claims Billy Gilmour won’t return to Rangers on loan next season.
The former Celtic striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insists the midfielder will be staying in the Premier League if he leaves Chelsea.
On 8th June, The Sun claimed Gilmour is considering a loan move next season.
The Scotland international has seen limited game time under Thomas Tuchel following Frank Lampard’s sacking in January.
Gilmour, 20, only made 11 senior appearances for the Blues last season though he did pick up a Champions League winner’s medal.
He signed for Chelsea in 2017, leaving Rangers for a “significant fee”. [Sky Sports]

McAvennie claims that while Gilmour will always be a “Rangers man”, Chelsea will want him to remain in the Premier League.
“Would he come back to Scotland?” McAvennie speculated to Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“He’s good enough for the Premier League. That’s the problem. He’s a Rangers guy no matter what.
“Up here, you play against Celtic a few times a year but that’s it. He’s a shining star.
“What a decision he made, leaving Rangers. It was a big decision and it’s paid off.
“That game against Liverpool in the Carabao Cup, he destroyed that midfield. He looked like a veteran rather than a teenager.
“Chelsea won’t sell him so yeah, get him away for a year. I think he’ll stay in the Premier League though.”
Gilmour burst onto the scene in March 2020 as he ran the show in a Carabao Cup win over Liverpool.
He made two appearances in Europe as Chelsea won the Champions League for the second time last season.
