McAvennie hails ‘incredible turnaround’ of Celtic man ‘who’s restored pride to that shirt’
Frank McAvennie claims Ange Postecoglou “deserves everything” as he prepares for his first cup final as Celtic boss.
The former Hoops hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, has been wowed by the manager’s start to life at Parkhead.
Celtic face Hibernian at Hampden on Sunday (19 December) in the Scottish League Cup final.
This is Postecoglou’s first chance to win silverware as Celtic boss.
The Hoops went trophyless last season las they struggled through one of their worst campaigns.
McAvennie can’t believe the turnaround Postecoglou has inspired since being appointed last summer (2021).
“Ange deserves everything,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“I didn’t think Celtic were capable of reaching a cup final after last season.
“Whatever happens on Sunday, he’s restored pride to that badge and to that shirt.
“Look at some of these scenes we have seen in recent games. The club is completely united.
“It would be an incredible achievement to win a trophy so early on. People forget the state we were in when he joined.
“If we don’t win, it’s not the end of the world. It’s about more than that.
“We needed this. The turnaround has been incredible, I just didn’t see it. Sunday will be a landmark day.
“Fingers crossed I am talking about a trophy-winning manager next week.”

Celtic also remain in the title race and are keeping pace with league leaders Rangers.
The Hoops’ next league game is away at St Mirren on Wednesday (22 December).
