McAvennie issues emphatic Kyogo Furuhashi verdict as Celtic footage emerges
Frank McAvennie has hailed Kyogo Furuhashi’s return to form for Celtic.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Hoops striker said he “felt for” Kyogo’s goalscoring drought but insisted he is now back to his best.
The 27-year-old was an unused substitute in the Celts’ 4-3 victory over Hearts on Saturday (22 October).
As shown on Premier Sports (20 October), the Japan international finally found the back of the net for the second time in nine games.
He helped the Hoops to a 4-0 victory over Motherwell to secure a place in the Premier Sports Cup semi-final on Wednesday (19 October).
As quoted by the Daily Record (19 October), Ange Postecoglou said he never doubted Kyogo’s goalscoring ability.
The Aussie boss added that the “world collapses” on strikers when they go a couple of games without scoring.
McAvennie said he was pleased to finally see the forward back on the scoresheet.
“For Kyogo to get his goal was different class,” he told Football Insider.
“I felt for him because he was hitting the post and missing chances. Hopefully that is it now for him.

“He is a different kind of player from [Giorgios] Giakoumakis. People are not scared of Giakoumakis when he comes short because he likes to wrestle players. He will not run away from a challenge.
“For Kyogo, no one wants to come short because if he turns he will run away from you and nobody is catching him. He creates so much space because people are scared to leave him.“
