McAvennie: ‘It breaks my heart to say’ Rangers have been handed two ‘massive’ player boosts after Sky latest

Frank McAvennie insists Rangers have received a “massive boost” after an injury update on Ryan Kent and Ryan Jack.

The former Celtic hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, admitted he is a huge fan of both players.

On 20 October, Steven Gerrard claimed Kent, 25, is “close” to a first-team return.

Sky Sports updated on 26 October that Jack is nearing a first-team return but won’t be ready to face Aberdeen on Wednesday night.

Both players were vital to Rangers’ impressive 2020-21 campaign, making 76 appearances between them.

McAvennie claims the return of both players is massive for Gerrard as he told Rangers their new challenge is keeping the duo fit.

“Both of them coming back is a massive boost,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“I’m a huge fan of Jack. He can dictate the game so well and he’s someone Rangers miss when he’s not there.

“Kent coming back is also massive. He is such a talent, it breaks my heart to say that.

“But he’s a phenomenal player who Rangers haven’t seen enough of this season.

“He is a game-changing player and I think Rangers have missed some of his creativity.

“That’s two players who were key last season. Obviously, it’s massive for Steven Gerrard.

“The key is now keeping them fit for the rest of the season.”
