McAvennie: Leeds star Bamford perfect for West Ham but this is where he will be next season
Patrick Bamford will still be a Leeds United player next season as he hasn’t got what it takes to join a top club.
That’s according to former West Ham hitman Frank McAvennie, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about Bamford’s future.
On Monday, The Athletic‘s David Ornstein revealed that Leeds secretly extended Bamford’s contract last summer.
This means the forward is under contract beyond the summer of 2022.
Earlier this year, Football Insider revealed the club are set to open talks with Bamford over a blockbuster new contract following a sensational Premier League campaign.
The Athletic also claim Liverpool are one of several clubs said to be ‘admirers’ of Bamford.

McAvennie claims Bamford will still be a Leeds player next season as he isn’t good enough to join a top club.
“I think he’s enjoying his time at Leeds,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“He would do a job at West Ham, they need a striker and he’d be ideal. Obviously, he won’t sign for them but who could he sign for?
“I don’t know if he can go to a top club. He suits Leeds really well, he’s incredible for them.
“Your Man City and Man United’s. I’ve seen him linked with Liverpool in the papers.
“Can I see that? Probably not. He’s not at that next level. I think he’ll still be at Leeds next year.”
Bamford has scored 15 goals and picked up eight assists in the Premier League this season.
Leeds are next in action against Burnley on Saturday afternoon.
