McAvennie: Postecoglou's 'great contacts' could land Celtic 'next Nakamura'

Frank McAvennie claims Ange Postecoglou could unearth the next Shunsuke Nakamura after taking the Celtic job.

The former Hoops hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, is hoping the new boss has “great contacts” in Asia.

Postecoglou, 55, was announced as Celtic’s new manager last week after a prolonged hunt for Neil Lennon’s replacement.

He left Japanese side Yokohama F. Marinos to take the role and has plenty of experience managing in Australia.

Nakamura, 42, started his career at Yokohama F. Marinos and signed for Celtic in 2005.

He went on to become a club icon, winning three Scottish Premierships and three domestic cups.

McAvennie hopes Postecoglou’s contacts could unearth plenty of gems from the other side of the world.

“I don’t know what his contacts are like,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“He might have great contacts. He could unearth a couple of Nakamura’s. I think he’ll be signing players we don’t know about.

“He can unearth a few gems. He must have contacts in that neck of the woods. A couple of Nakamura’s will do great.

“It will be great for the club as well. Japan is a massive market and there could be interest now he’s here.

“Listen, as long as these players can play, I don’t care where they are from.”

Nakamura is still playing for Yokohama FC in Japan.

He made 166 appearances for Celtic and scored 34 goals before leaving to join Espanyol.
