McAvennie reveals he was wrong about Celtic after what he spotted against Rangers
Celtic deserved their win over Rangers in the first Glasgow derby of the season on Sunday.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Hoops striker Frank McAvennie was surprised that the Celts came out on top but insisted they were rightful winners after their performance.
Brendan Rodgers’ side was riddled with injuries with youngster Liam Scales and new signing Gustaf Lagerbielke starting as the centre-back pairing with Reo Hatate also on the sidelines.

The Gers had the ball in the back of the net twice, the first ruled out for an obvious offside.
The second goal from Kemar Roofe was chopped off after a VAR check, the outcome of which deemed Cyriel Dessers to have fouled Lagerbielke before setting up Roofe to finish the strike.
The Hoops went ahead thanks to a strike from Kyogo Furuhashi just before half time and the Gers failed to find a way back in the second half and the ame finished 1-0.
When asked for his thoughts on the overall performance, McAvennie told Football Insider: “Celtic and Rangers games are never the best quality because it is such a big rivalry.
“If you were a football purist you would not be impressed. Celtic deserved to win, they were the better team and I never thought that going in to the game.
“You have got to give credit to the young guys, they did very well.“

The Hoops are now four points ahead of their Glasgow rivals after four league games.
The Gers sit fourth in the Scottish Premiership table with two wins and two losses to start the season.
