McAvennie shares two-word verdict on Rangers signing Gilmour in January after manager 'conversation'
Frank McAvennie claims there is “no chance” of Rangers signing Billy Gilmour on loan from Chelsea in January.
The former Celtic striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insists the Gers already have too many midfielders.
Gilmour, 20, hasn’t played for loan club Norwich since 21 September despite impressing in the early days of the season and while on international duty.
On 1 November, The Athletic reported Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel had a “conversation” with Daniel Farke about the midfielder’s game time.
The report also claimed Chelsea have a break clause in the loan deal which can be triggered in the new year.
Gilmour has been continuously linked with a move back to Ibrox since he left Glasgow as a youth player in 2017.

Asked about the likelihood of Rangers re-signing Gilmour in January, McAvennie told Football Insider‘s Ben Wild: “No chance”.
He added: “I talk about how many midfielders they have every week. The last thing they need is another midfielder.
“I get there is history, the fans would love it. I get that. Would Chelsea let him go as well?
“He’s not getting game time now, can Gerrard guarantee he will get it at Rangers?
“Not with that many other midfielders he can’t. I know the fans would love it but I think there’s no chance of that happening.”
Gilmour picked up a Champions League winners medal last season after making two appearances on Chelsea’s road to the final.
He has so far made 22 senior appearances for Chelsea.
