McAvennie tells Celtic to sell ‘terrible’ Johnston after what he’s seen
Mikey Johnson should leave Celtic and join one of their Premiership rivals.
That’s according to former Hoops hitman Frank McAvennie, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the attacker’s surprise start against Hibs last weekend.
Johnston, 22, started as Celtic beat Hibs 2-1 last Sunday (19 December) to win the Scottish League Cup.

This was only his fourth start of the season as Ange Postecoglou was forced to choose from an injury-ravaged squad.
McAvennie was not impressed with what he saw and claimed the attacker needs to leave Parkhead in January.
“I was very surprised to see Johnston start against Hibs,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“That just shows how thin they are. I’m still not convinced by him.
“I got it wrong with Ralston, I’m not wrong about this guy. He’s been here too long.
“He has great ability but his decision making is terrible. He played out wide against Hibs but he kept cutting in and running into players.
“I don’t mean running into them and taking them on, he was bouncing off them.
“The manager trusts him, but for me, he’s never done it for us.
“Maybe the crowd was getting to him and he was trying to do too much.
“I think if he went to Aberdeen or Hibs or Hearts, he would be a better player.
“I don’t think he has what it takes. He’s too good for the bench but not good enough for the first team.

“He’s a bit-part player and I don’t want a player like that at my club.
“He keeps getting injured as well. It’s not good.”
