McAvennie tips ‘Mr Celtic’ for Parkhead return after statement
Frank McAvennie claims the new Celtic manager will add a club icon to his backroom staff.
The former Hoops hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, predicts the new boss will appoint a familiar face to his team.
Celtic have been managerless since the end of February, when John Kennedy took over as caretaker boss until the end of the season.
In a recent statement to supports, the Hoops insisted they were ‘working hard to complete the appointment of the new Celtic manager’.
Celtic supporters are still in the dark over who their new boss will be.
But whoever it is may bring a familiar face back to the club.
McAvennie claims any new manager will approach someone who has extensive knowledge about the goings on at Parkhead.
“That’s the first thing they have to do,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“I wouldn’t be surprised if someone who knows the club comes back. Someone who knows Celtic inside out, a real Mr Celtic.
“Whoever comes in, I’m sure they will bring someone in who knows the quality and fabric of the club.
“Even if they bring their own team from elsewhere, there will be someone with that knowledge.
“The backroom staff will be cleared out but someone who knows the club needs to be there. I’m sure they will be.”
The Bhoys finished second in this season’s Scottish Premiership, 25 points behind Rangers.
Next season gets underway in just over two months when the Hoops enter the Champions League at the second qualifying stage.
