McLeish 'baffled' by treatment of Morelos and two Rangers teammates v Aberdeen

Alex McLeish was “baffled” by the inconsistent officiating in Aberdeen’s 1-1 draw with Rangers on Tuesday.

The former Dons star and Gers manager, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, criticised decisions given against Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent, while he claimed Allan McGregor was lucky to escape without punishment.

Having taken the lead in Aberdeen, Rangers were pegged back by Lewis Ferguson’s penalty after a handball call against Morelos.

Aberdeen perhaps could have had two penalties on the night after McGregor collided with Ryan Hedges.

The Gers also saw Kent sent off after receiving two yellow cards.

McLeish insisted the winger’s dismissal was “harsh”.

He also questioned the penalty calls on the night.

McLeish told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “Sometimes everybody complains about the decisions Rangers invariably get but I felt the sending-off was a bit harsh.

“I just can’t work out a penalty these days. He didn’t make a movement towards the ball, the ball hit his arm. What the hell do you do in the box? You’ve got to play in the box with your hands behind your back.

“Again, harsh. These penalties are baffling and I think it spoils the game a bit.

“There’s got to be a bit of give and take. The Dons deserve the point, they played really well, had other chances. Maybe they could have had a penalty when McGregor caught the player going through.”

The point means Rangers sit four clear of Celtic at the top of the table.

The Gers return to action on Friday for the Scottish Cup tie against Stirling Albion.
