McLeish claims McGinn can be ‘sensational’ Wijnaldum replacement at Liverpool after Echo news
Alex McLeish claims Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn can replace Georginio Wijnaldum at Liverpool.
The former Villa boss, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, hailed the Scotland international as “sensational”.
On Thursday (1st July) Liverpool Echo claimed Jurgen Klopp is a “huge admirer” of McGinn.

The Athletic also reported on 23rd June that Villa will only entertain a potential deal for McGinn if the bidding starts at between £45-50million.
McGinn, 26, only missed one Premier League game last season.
McLeish insists the midfielder has the ability to change his game and become a like-for-Pundit view: ‘Sensational’ PL ace Klopp reportedly admirers can step up and replace Wijnaldumlike Wijnaldum replacement.
“He’s made enormous strides over the years,” McLeish told Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge.
“At St Mirren and Hibs, now he’s moved to England and he’s been sensational for Aston Villa.
“If Jurgen is asking Andy Robertson about him, it won’t be about how good he is. It will be about what kind of lad he is. He’s a well-liked boy for everyone at Villa and with Scotland.
“Jurgen will have to decide if he has the quality for Liverpool. If he’s asking Andy these questions then it looks like he does.
“He certainly has the energy to do the box to box thing and he had a goal in him.
“Wijnaldum was slightly different in terms of his build and style of play but John is capable of doing that.”

McGinn played every minute of Scotland’s Euro 2020 campaign including an impressive draw against England.
Wijnaldum left Liverpool on a free transfer this summer and signed for PSG.
In other news, there has been a big update on Aston Villa’s bid to lure James Ward-Prowse from Southampton.
