McLeish ‘delighted’ by source’s update on Rangers sensation Robbie Ure

Robbie Ure could not have wished for a better Rangers debut.

That’s according to ex-Gers boss Alex McLeish, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the 18-year-old’s potential.

Ure scored the opener in Rangers’ 3-0 win over Queen of the South on Tuesday (30 August), on what was his senior debut.

On 31 August, sources told Football Insider that Rangers are set to open fresh contract talks with the youngster.

McLeish was left delighted with the striker’s contribution.

“That’s what you need to do as a youngster breaking through,” McLeish told Football Insider’s Ben Wild.

“You have to show the manager what you are capable of, you have to show the manager why you are at Rangers.

“Giovanni has obviously used his squad very, very strongly. Queen of the South aren’t the biggest team in the world but it gave them a chance to use the squad and give some players a rest.

“At the same time, it gives those younger players the chance to come in and show what they are all about.

“I’m delighted for the boy, what a way to make a name for yourself. He is one we will have to keep an eye on.

“I have to say, I can’t see him getting many more first team minutes if Colak carries on scoring the way he has.”

Ure is regarded as a forward of immense promise by the club and they want to tie him down to a long-term deal.

The 18-year-old has already featured seven times for Rangers B in Lowland League competition this term – scoring twice and laying on three assists.
