McLeish hails masterful management after Morelos transfer twist at Rangers
Alex McLeish has heralded Steven Gerrard for using a potential transfer out of Rangers as motivation for Alfredo Morelos.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Ibrox boss insisted it is “no secret” players and agents are always looking for moves.
Discussing the striker’s future, as quoted by the Times, Gerrard admitted Morelos has “made it clear where he wants to be long term”, hinting at a move away from Glasgow.

However, he insisted the Colombia international has to perform at a certain level at Ibrox “for people to show an interest in him”.
Morelos scored his 100th goal for Rangers in the win over St Mirren and followed it up with another against Aberdeen.
McLeish insisted Gerrard would know what makes the hitman tick.
He applauded the Gers boss for using a transfer as a motivator.
McLeish told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “We’re living in a world where there’s a lot of openness about clubs wanting to buy and looking to sell.
“It’s no secret that the agents are looking to move their clients and make some money from that. For their client, first and foremost, and themselves.
“Let’s face it, they deserve that when they move the player. That’s why Stevie’s used it. It’s quite a cute way of doing it, isn’t it?
“He’s said if he wants to attract another clubs, he’s got to play a bit better. He knows, he’s worked with him for three years now or something.
“He knows his players inside out, and he should know what ticks their boxes.”

Morelos has scored seven goals in 18 appearances this season.
He is contracted at Ibrox until 2023.
