Dele Alli looked back to his “absolute best” for Tottenham against Wolfsberger, according to Alex McLeish.
The former Scotland manager, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, admitted he was dazzled by the 24-year-old as he stole the show on Wednesday night.
The attacking midfielder opened the scoring with a stunning overhead kick and contributed another two assists in the 4-0 win.
Alli has struggled for form at Spurs this season, with just eight starts in his 17 appearances across all competitions.
He has been criticised by Jose Mourinho in recent months and looked destined for the exit during January.
McLeish admitted the England international had been a long way from his best but admitted it was worth the wait to see him shining once again.
“He lost his kind of way a bit and I couldn’t believe for one minute that a guy with that talent could disappear from the game,” McLeish told Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge.
“It’s just great to see him showing that talent again. I saw him in an England international at Wembley years ago. He scored a magnificent goal and I thought this kid’s got some future.
“Technically, we have seen that guy do some amazing things over the years. If it’s taken time to get back to his absolute best, it’s worth it.”
Alli has now scored three goals and chipped in with four assists in his 17 appearances this season.
However, he has struggled for regular game time in the Premier League, with just one start in six top-flight outings.
