McLeish issues 'absolutely massive' Rangers title prediction after £20m+ reveal

Alex McLeish claims Rangers need to win the Scottish Premiership “more than Celtic” after their financial accounts were published.

The former Gers manager, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claims winning the league this season is more important than stopping Celtic from winning 10 in a row last season.

This comes as the Scottish champions posted a loss of £23.5million for the year ending June 2021, as per the 64-page annual report document published on 5 November.

This season, the winner of the Premiership will advance directly to the Champions League group stage.

As per AS, qualifying for the Champions League group stage is worth at least £15.64million with extra money awarded based on results.

McLeish insists this financial boost makes winning the title this season even more vital for Rangers.

“The Champions League is absolutely massive,” McLeish told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“Going straight into the group stages will sort Rangers out financially.

“Of course, they will go straight into the groups if they win the league.

“Everyone said 55 was the most important title, now it looks like this season’s title is even more important due to the finances, which is absolutely massive.

“There is a long way to go and I still believe Rangers are better than Celtic.

“January will be big for both clubs, depending on who comes and goes, that could swing the title race.

“I think at this point, Rangers need that title more than Celtic.”

Rangers are currently top of the Premiership, four points ahead of Celtic.

Though the Light Blues are scrambling to appoint a new manager after Steven Gerrard quit the club to join Aston Villa this week.
