McLeish issues ‘big’ Alfredo Morelos transfer verdict amid Rangers twist

Rangers still want to sell Alfredo Morelos despite productive talks with Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

That’s according to former Gers boss Alex McLeish, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the hitman’s future.

Morelos, 26, was dropped from the Gers squad for last week’s games against PSV Eindhoven and Ross County due to attitude and fitness concerns.

Rangers

This sparked a flurry of transfer speculation with Morelos out of contract at the end of the season.

As quoted by the Daily Record (31 August), Van Bronckhorst has now “seen a change in his [Morelos] attitude” and also claimed the striker will be “important for us in the next months of the season”.

However, McLeish claims Rangers may still want to sell Morelos.

“He is running out of contract and Rangers clearly want to get a big fee for him if his plan is to walk out at the end of the season,” McLeish told Football Insider’s Ben Wild.

“It starts to become a bit difficult once we get towards the endgame. This clear-the-air thing they have done is absolutely necessary.

“I’m sure it was an informal chat and Giovanni has the experience and the words to sort out that situation.

“These days you can’t bring players in and scream at them in your office, it’s more of a man-to-man situation.

“You are trying to get the reaction out of the player. Morelos has a few years of his career left and he has to make the most of that.”

Rangers

Morelos has made four appearances for the Gers in all competitions this season.

He has scored one goal.
