McLeish issues emphatic Antonio Colak claim after what he’s just seen at Rangers

Antonio Colak will be a “prolific” striker for Rangers after breaking his duck for the club.

That’s according to ex-Gers boss Alex McLeish, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about his former side’s new striker.

Colak, 28, has now scored two goals in his last two games for Rangers after failing to find the net in his first two appearances.

His goal against Kilmarnock (6 August) was followed up by a strike against Union Saint-Gilloise on Tuesday (9 August) as the Gers made it to the final stage of Champions League qualifying.

McLeish has been left impressed by Colak’s all-round play and hailed Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s decision to sign him.

“That’s fantastic,” McLeish told Football Insider’s Ben Wild.

“You have to credit the manager. There were people doubting Colak, the fact that he was not prolific.

“He brings more to the team as well. If he can get on a really good run of scoring then I think the Rangers fans, at last, will be relieved.

“This new guy, Colak, is going to be prolific. Morelos doesn’t look quite at match fitness yet, which is to be expected.

“But Colak has linked up play and his finishing has impressed as well.”

Colak signed for Malmo on loan in March but only managed to score five goals in his 14 outings.

He has played three times for the Croatia national side but is yet to get on the scoresheet for his country.
