McLeish makes bold Itten claim after Rangers confession
Alex McLeish has suggested Cedric Itten failed to “settle” at Rangers last season but could return a far better player.
The former Gers boss, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the 2020 signing made the right decision heading out on loan to Greuther Furth after “languishing” in Glasgow.
Steve Gerrard had the likes of Alfredo Morelos, Jermain Defoe and Kemar Roofe to call upon up front last season.
He also added Fashion Sakala to his ranks this summer.
McLeish admitted the fierce competition had not helped Itten flourish at Ibrox.

He suggested regular games in Germany could unlock his full potential.
“He has to go and play football, Itten,” McLeish told Football Insider deputy editor Russell Edge.
“He has languished a little bit over the last season. Yes, he did come in to score a couple of important goals which were vital to Rangers winning the league.
“But he didn’t quite cement that position or that place for him on a permanent basis. Morelos and Roofe were clearly ahead of him and Defoe sometimes came off the bench before Itten did.
“You tend to think that he hasn’t fully settled down at Ibrox. I think a player has to go out and get games, he has to go.
“If he rocks up in Germany and does really well, Rangers might get an even better player coming back.”
Itten netted six goals in 38 appearances for Rangers last season.
He played the full 90 minutes for Greuther Furth on Saturday (11th September) in a 2-0 defeat to Wolfsburg.
