McLeish: Rangers are 50 per cent better when these two quality signings are in the team

By Harry Sykes

Alex McLeish has hailed the impact made by Rangers summer signings Graham Dorrans and Bruno Alves.

The former Ibrox manager claimed the experienced duo make a huge difference to Pedro Caixinha’s side and improve it by 50 per cent.

The Glasgow giants have signed nine players this summer, with the majority of them unheralded players from overseas, including many known to Caixinha from his stints in Mexico and his native Portugal.

Perhaps the best known of the new arrivals are central midfielder Dorrans, who was signed from Norwich, and Euro 2016 winning centre-back Bruno Alves.

McLeish was convinced the senior pair of Dorran, 30, and Alves, 35, would make a difference to the team and could help them bounce back following their Europa League humiliation at the hands of Luxembourg minnows Progres.

“After the Europa League matches with Progres, I said they should get over it, get back to winning ways,” McLeish told the Daily Record.

“Get Bruno Alves and Graham Dorrans into the team and immediately there is more than a 50 per cent improvement just because you have two quality signings like that coming into the side.

“Pedro should not be distracted from what is going on because there are plenty of reasons for Rangers to be positive.”

Alves and Dorrans have both started each of the Gers’ two Scottish Premiership matches, a 2-1 win at Motherwell and a 3-2 home defeat against Hibernian.

Rangers are next in action on Saturday when they host Hearts at Ibrox.
