McLeish: Rangers have landed their own Bruno Fernandes after what I’ve heard from pal
Rangers may have signed their own Bruno Fernandes in the shape of Juninho Bacuna, according to Alex McLeish.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gers boss suggested the 24-year-old could bring some “arrogance” to Ibrox
Rangers confirmed Bacuna’s capture from Huddersfield last week (19th August).
Speaking to the Glasgow Times, Steven Gerrard revealed he saw Bacuna as an “attacking midfielder” and highlighted his “powerful” presence.
McLeish suggested the new arrival could emulate the movement and attacking nous shown by Fernandes at Manchester United.
McLeish told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “Attacking midfielders are very powerful players if they can get to their top level.
“You think of Bruno Fernandes at Manchester United. I watched a masterclass showing a couple of weeks ago in the Leeds game. He was running beyond defenders.
“If Bacuna can come in and add that kind of moment to Rangers and adds that to his own game, because he’s been renowned for it, then you would think they have got a good asset.
“Arfield’s done it really well. He got one with a late run into the box (v Ross County) and that’s his game too. It’ll be a fight, there’s be competition for places.
“I’m not saying Bacuna is definitely going to be going in there and cementing a place right away. He has to prove that.
“I’ve got a pal at Huddersfield, massive Huddersfield fan, he studies players extensively. He thought he could bring a bit of arrogance to Rangers.

“So long as he brings it in a positive way, like Fernandes. You can see in Fernandes is fairly sure of himself. That is hard. I’m not comparing him to Fernandes.
“I’m just saying if he can match the technique with the actual mentality he has, he could be a good asset.”
