McLeish: Rangers ‘plan’ has been foiled by Celtic after ‘both arguments’ detailed
Alex McLeish can understand why Rangers want the Scottish Premiership Season to continue.
The former Gers boss, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insists Rangers want to face an injury-ridden Celtic in the next Old Firm clash.
On Wednesday (22 December) the SPFL announced the postponement of some of the Premiership’s festive fixtures.
Games scheduled for 29 December and 2 January have been moved to February, effectively bringing forward the annual winter break.
In a statement on Tuesday (21 December) Celtic confirmed they had asked the SPFL to move the scheduled winter break forward by a week.
As per the Scottish Sun (21 December) Rangers were against the move and McLeish can understand why.
“Celtic are looking to get the fans back in, they don’t want to play behind closed doors,” McLeish told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“Rangers are on a bit of a run right now so you can understand both arguments.
“There are a lot of players going down with injuries at the moment and we all want to play with our strongest teams.
“You can see why Rangers wanted the game to go ahead, Celtic have loads of key players missing. You can see the idea there.
“It looks like Celtic have won again though. They obviously put the statement out.
“We have to do what is best for the safety of the fans so hopefully when the season resumes we can all go back.”

Rangers were set to face Celtic at Parkhead on 2 January.
The game will now be played on 2 February.
In other news, a pundit has claimed one Rangers star could force an exit this January.
