McLeish tells Hagi to snub offer to quit Rangers after latest twist
Ianis Hagi should snub a potential move abroad to remain at Rangers for the good of his career, according to Alex McLeish
The former Gers boss, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, predicted interest would rise in the 22-year-old after his international exploits.
Romania international Hagi netted a stunning solo effort to open the scoring for his country against Germany in World Cup qualifying last week (October 8th).
The former Fiorentina winger has been linked with a return to Italy.
As reported by Sport.ro last month (September 23rd), Jose Mourinho’s Roma are looking to sign Hagi for around £17million (€20million) in January.
The midfielder has made 10 appearances for Rangers this term, netting twice.
McLeish insisted Hagi should remain at Ibrox to develop under Steven Gerrard before taking stock of his career at a later date.
“When you put in a good showing for your country, scoring against one of the best nations in the world, it will lead to interest,” he told Football Insider’s Russell Edge.
“Hagi, over the past couple of years, has tried to cement himself as a regular for Rangers.
“That’s the level he’s aspiring to, but he’s found it difficult with Rangers having the collection of technically gifted players they do.
“It would really benefit him to stay put at the moment and see where it can take his career a couple of years down the line.
“If he has continued success with Rangers, winning trophies and earning good money, then what’s the point in leaving?”

Hagi joined Rangers in 2020 on an initial loan which was made permanent for a reported £3million.
The youngster has netted 13 goals in 68 appearances for the Gers.
