Marcelo Bielsa must be terrified about the possibility of Leeds United losing Raphinha to a “top club” this summer, according to Alex McLeish.
The former Rangers and Scotland boss, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, admitted the 24-year-old had been playing at a “different level” this season.
The Brazilian joined Leeds for a reported £17million plus add-ons from Rennes last summer.
He has established himself as a firm favourite of both Bielsa and the Elland Road faithful thanks to his exciting wing-play.
Raphinha has become a creative force for the Whites with five goals and five assists in 22 Premier League appearances.
As first revealed by Football Insider, Liverpool scouts have been hugely impressed by the dazzling winger and he has been linked with Man United by SportItalia in recent days.
However, he was unable to make difference on Saturday as Leeds slipped to a 1-0 defeat against Aston Villa.
With other clubs sniffing around, McLeish suggested Bielsa would be seriously worried about losing his star man.
“The scary thing is now he’s catching the eye of other top clubs,” McLeish told Football Insider’s Russell Edge.
“That’s Bielsa’s biggest fear. This guy is just at a different level.
“I’m not saying he’s at a different level from Leeds. Leeds could get to that level when they’ve got a coach like Bielsa.
“Raphinha has just been an absolute £17million steal.”
Only Patrick Bamford has scored and assisted more goals at Leeds United than Raphinha this season.
The English striker has netted 13 goals and set up a further six for his teammates.
