McLeish verdict on Ryan Jack making Rangers comeback after confirmed news

Alex McLeish has admitted Steven Gerrard faces a dilemma over whether to bring Ryan Jack back into the Rangers squad against Ross County on Sunday.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gers boss insisted the 29-year-old needs to get back to playing after his lengthy injury layoff.

Speaking to Rangers TV (5th November) ahead of Sunday’s game, assistant manager Gary McAllister confirmed Rangers have a “full squad” available and that Jack is getting “closer and closer” to a return.

Gerrard stated earlier this week that the midfielder had an “outside chance” of featuring against County.

Jack has not featured since February after undergoing surgery on a calf injury.

McLeish admitted the Ibrox medical staff would advise on the Scotland international’s potential return.

However, he insisted the Light Blues cannot be overcautious about bringing him back.

McLeish told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “You are guided by the medical team. You have to trust the people who work with you.

“Your assistant has got your back, your coaches have got your back and the medical team will tell you exactly what they feel.

“I’m sure there are some cases when a manager says: ‘I’m not going to listen to you. He looks fit, he has told me he is fit and he wants to play.’

“But I do believe there’s top respect for what the medical team have to say. They’ll probably give Stevie what would be the final word, and then Stevie he makes that decision.

“It may be that they say you could play him but we feel maybe he’s not quite ready yet.

“But at some stage, he has to come in because he has to make up for lost time. For him to be fit again, sharper. The way you get that is by getting games.”
